Industrial Andons, LLC

Efficient Manufacturing Solutions

An Andon is a visual and audible response notification tool (Jidoka), which is comprised of various combinations of lights and sounds.  When production personnel have any issue on the floor, they simply turn on the Andon to signal for help.  Once the system is turned on, the lights and sounds alert the support personnel who can quickly address the problem.

An Andon promotes visual factory and serves two goals.  First, it enables the production personnel to remain at their workstation when they have an issue.  Second, it reduces response time and more efficiently gets the support personnel to the line where they are needed to get the line back up and running.

Andon systems are necessary to ensure that your manufacturing or assembly facility is lean and efficient. While Andon Systems have been used for years to promote efficiency within manufacturing and assembly facilities, Industrial Andons, LLC provides a patented wireless system and method to make installing and using an Andon System easier, more flexible, and more affordable than ever before!

Industrial Andons, LLC’s andon systems communicate wirelessly between the two main components; the Plant Signal Unit and Floor Signal Stations.   The units communicate using transceivers which allows for two way communication between the components.

The Floor Signal Stations are the components that are placed directly on the line.  The team members on the line then turn on the switch for the desired light on the Floor Signal Station.  The Floor Signal Station then sends a signal to the Plant Signal Unit and waits for a confirmation signal back from the Plant Signal Unit.

The Plant Signal Unit is usually hung near the ceiling at a good central point which is visible from most critical vantage points on the floor.  When the Plant Signal Unit receives the signal from the Floor Signal Station, the Plant Signal Unit turns on the appropriate light, records which unit sent the signal and turns on the tone module.  No matter which light is turned on, the tone module plays the same melody.

At this point, the team member has the option to press the momentary button on their switch box at their Floor Signal Station, which will silence the tone module but not turn the light off.  This can be used to indicate that help has arrived, but that an issue still exists on the line.  The tone module will turn back on with the next new signal.

The Plant Signal Unit keeps track of all signals and will not turn a light off until all Floor Signal Stations that had a particular light on, send a signal back to turn it off.

Since the system uses transceivers, it makes sure all signals are heard.  If a confirmation signal is not received, the Floor Signal Station will shut down and the YELLOW light will flash, indicating no communication occurred and the team member knows to take alternate action.
